Who, and what?
About Jay
Hi, I'm Jared (Jay), a USMC veteran and programming aficionado who's always ready to learn something new! I'm a student at Kansas State University studying Integrated Computer Science (ICS). The ICS program is unique in that it offers students a chance to study computer science pragmatically through practical application projects via an online IDE and explore other interdisciplinary areas to compliment their study. I decided to declare a minor in psychology and statistics and I hope to leverage my experience and knowledge in computer science to contribute to a psychological research project sometime this year. I also earned an Associate of Applied Science in Software Development from Butler Community College, which helped kickstart my professional career in the software development industry. I first started working at NetApp working as a software engineer contractor to contribute to an in-house web application project. Upon graduation from Butler, I joined Pillr, a cybersecurity company and had worked there as a software developer intern up to April, 2025.
προκοπή
- pro- (in front of or before) + kóptō (to cut)
- progress or advancement
What is 'Prokope'?
Prokope (προκοπή; pronounced as prok-op-ay) colloquially means progress or advancement, but literally translates to pro- (in front of or before) kóptō (to cut). I encountered this interesting Greek word during my stoic philosophy readings one day and found it meaningful. Today, as I study computer science and psychology, I am realizing the importance of contributing to human progress as best as I can. As I see it, the word prokope is the best embodiment of our technological world. To advance, we sometimes need to clear a path for others to follow. We need to be innovators, trail-blazers, and leaders to guide others to a more organized and structured world. As such, I hope that prokope.io will help contribute to this human project we call technology by providing tutorials, personal insights, international exploration, and inspiration to others.

As large language models (LLM) and RAG agents proliferate throughout the world and the internet, many questions as to the potential detrimental impacts of usage are being considered. DataFest 2025
April 30, 2025
Just over this past weekend, I attended the first DataFest event that Kansas State University has ever hosted. DataFest is a celebration of data and statistics and a friendly competition between data professionals from all backgrounds. Given that I am studying Statistics as a minor, I thought I'd give it a go. And it was well worth it!
